When he was just a baby, napping on my lap. I swapped my phone for a book!

I am a father of a 2 year old. And I managed to pull myself back on track! The key really was to plan ahead. I knew I would not be able to hit the gym, or be disciplined with my diet.

I assumed I was going to gain weight. In martial arts we have a practice called “Iron Shirt”. It essentially works like a form of ‘isometric exercise’. A fairly advanced practice, you pull on a tree or push against a wall with good structure.

Since I can’t diet in a disciplined way, I simply decided to go into a “bulking phase”. I ate lots of eggs, cereal, etc... figured I might as well gain muscle, if I’m going to gain weight! Sure enough, I gained a whopping 9 pounds! But while I was going on a calorie surplus, I also gained muscle, which is clearly visible. And that was key!

After the toddler decided to sleep through the night, I started to wake up very early to make time for serious work out. I then went on a 16-8 intermittent fasting. Within about 3 weeks I was able to get back to my original fat percentage levels. But I’m about 3-4 pounds heavier than I was with a bit of added muscle.

The key really is to have that lifestyle built in. Trying to find every nook and cranny of free time.
